Monkey Island Resort Koh Mak

Monkey Island Resort is a backpacker’s favourite located right on the sand. They have a good range of accommodation that ranges from simple but comfortable fan huts all the way up to large beach bungalows with aircon and a large deck overlooking the beach.

There is a small plunge pool and a bar beside it, as well as an atmospheric wooden restaurant/bar that serves food and drinks all day.

Koh Mak Resort

Koh Mak Resort is a lovely resort located on the beach with a variety of widely-spread and comfortable beach bungalows. Their restaurant and bar is a great place to sit and look out over the beach and bay and to watch the laid back activity of island life.

Thaidaho Vista

Thaidaho Vista is a small, intimate yet affordable retreat on Koh Mak—with a stunning Million Dollar View!  Perched atop Koh Mak’s highest hill, Thaidaho Vista may be Koh Mak’s only true “non-smoking” property.  This, combined with the owner’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, makes for a uniquely fun, clean, green, eco and health-friendly hangout for couples, friends and single travelers.

The owners are Kat and Allen.  Kat is Thai and Allen is from Idaho, so together they are Thaidaho.  Thaidaho Vista has only three or four boutique en-suite AirCon rooms with western toilets and hot water showers; and an artsy café/Coffee Shop (Kat is also an artist and musician) that serves real Northern Thai ‘through-the-fence’ coffee and great western breakfasts.  With inside and outside ocean view seating, the café/coffee shop is open to 4pm with homemade western breakfasts and lunches, all the different hot & cold coffee drinks, Thai fruit shakes, Kat’s fresh baked cakes and treats, and a full ‘old fashioned’ ice cream fountain with sundaes, ice cream shakes, banana splits and lots of homemade toppings.  Beer, wine and soft drinks are also available on the patio.

Open seasonally from November through April: room prices vary by season and room, but range from 700 THB per night in the off season to 2500 THB per night for the second level Vista Room during the peak season.  Thaidaho Vista has advanced reservation nightly rates, long-stay (14 days or more) rates and ‘walk-up’ special rates.  You won’t find Thaidaho Vista on any of the big booking websites because Allen & Kat prefer the direct personal approach, so just email them at: Info@Thaidaho.com

Thaidaho Vista has won Trip Advisor’s coveted ‘Certificate of Excellence’ four years in a row; 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016!  You can read all the Trip Advisor reviews hereAnd you can see many fun photos of Thaidaho Vista on their Facebook page here.
