Elephant Trekking on Koh Chang

The word ‘Chang’ means elephant in Thai, so what could be more appropriate than going elephant trekking on Koh Chang, which translates as Elephant Island. The treks are a good opportunity to sample some of the beautiful scenery of inland Koh Chang. You can go direct to the elephant camps yourselves but since the best ones are hidden away in the jungle it might be easier to call them directly or book at a tour agency to arrange a pick up from your hotel. There are around six elephant trekking businesses on the island but the ones listed below are the ones that we have been sending our friends to for many years now and they always come back having had a great experience.

Chang Chutiman Koh Chang

Chang Chutiman operate economical and popular elephant trekking to the interior of the island from their new jungle elephant camp about 500M from the main road in Klong Prao village. To get there you need to follow the signs from the main road just after a bridge over a stream next to Big Elk Resort. It is definitely worth the journey because the fact that they are deep in the jungle means that your jungle trek will be through a beautiful and natural jungle setting.

Baan Kwan Chang Koh Chang

Baan Kwan Chang offer elephant treks that take place in another beautiful inland valley to the North of the island. To get there turn inland at Klong Son village – about 1km west of the ferries to the mainland and proceed for about 3km. The elephant camp is located in a lovely stretch of jungle and you can take a short or long trek and even bathe with the elephants in a cool jungle stream.
