A popular way to spend a half or full day on Koh Chang is to take a Thai Cooking course. And why not – Thai food is delicious, healthy and often very fast to prepare – what more can you ask for? These courses, when well done, give you a good background into some of the principles and ingredients used in Thai cooking. Generally you will be taught how to make a selection of classic Thai dishes for yourselves and then at the end of the course you get to taste the results.
In Kai Bae you can take a cooking course with Ka-Ti culinary. Their restaurant is very popular with locals, which is a good indicator of the quality of the food, so they are probably good people to learn from. There is a detailed page with some more info here.
The Happy Turtle
Another popular option at Bailan Beach is to try the Thai cooking course at The Happy Turtle bar and restaurant. Their classes get very good feedback from Thai cooking students. There’s more info on their page here.
If you’re in Trat on the mainland then Thinglish Kitchen offer the Thinglish Cooking Experience which is a ‘hands on’ Thai cooking class that aims to give you not only an introduction to Thai food, but also insights into local culture and customs.
Thinglish Kitchen is located in a peaceful country setting of Khao Saming district, just 9km from Trat City centre. They will, of course, arrange transport to and from Trat and it’s a fun thing to do. Find out more here.
